abuse of the nation’s forests. The mission today remains helping

American
Nursery and Landscape Association ANLA is the national trade association
of the nursery and landscape industry. The site includes industry statistics,
fact sheets, current research, and research grant and scholarship opportunities.

California
Department of Forestry and Fire Protection CDF is California ReLeaf’s
state agency partner. CDF’s website highlights a number of programs
that are of interest to urban and community foresters. Under “Resource

Urban Forests Council promotes the proper planning, planting, and
management of urban and community forests to maximize the quality of
life for all Californians. The organization promotes an ecosystems approach
to the practice of urban forestry by providing education and training
to those responsible for the management of our urban forests.

for Urban Forest Research conducts research that demonstrates new
ways that trees add value to communities and improve quality of life.
Research results are converted into financial terms to help stimulate
investment in community forests, and new technologies are created to
assist managers with developing better strategies for managing and caring
for urban forests.

local tree ordinances. The site is housed on the International Society
of Arboriculture’s website and provides annotated examples of
effective ordinance provisions and detailed descriptions of practical
methods used to monitor community tree resources, tree management activities,
and community attitudes.

Specifications for Nursery Tree Quality Developed by a team of municipal
arborists, urban foresters, nursery managers, horticultural consultants,
landscape architects, and nonprofit tree groups, the Guideline Specifications
for Nursery Tree Quality are intended to help landscape professionals
ensure that they obtain high quality container-grown nursery trees and
help nursery professionals in their efforts to improve the quality of
trees grown in California.

International Society of Arboriculture is a worldwide professional
organization working to foster a greater appreciation for trees and

Master
Gardeners volunteers are recruited and trained by land grant universities
throughout the United States and Canada. Local programs are coordinated
by horticulture advisors at county cooperative extension offices with
a primary goal to answer the myriad of questions from home gardeners.
The
National Arbor Day Foundation’s mission is to help promote
tree care and conservation and to educate people about tree issues through

National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council NUCFAC was
established by the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978 to develop
a national urban and community forestry action plan; evaluate the implementation
of that plan; and develop criteria and recommendations for an urban
and community forestry challenge cost-share program.

Maintained by the USDA Forest Service, Treesearch features an easy to
navigate database that allows users to search the Forest Service’s

United Voices for Healthier Communities The United Voices for Healthier Communities (UVFHC) is a “coalition of individuals, agencies, and organizations formed to increase tree canopy cover to achieve benefits to air quality and to promote healthier communities through the use of science, research, public education, management and public agency support.”

Forestry Ecosystems Institute The California Department of Forestry
and Fire Protection’s UFEI website includes SelecTree (a tree

Forest Service U&CF Program The Urban and Community Forestry
